Our guests prefer smaller, more intimate learning groups and social settings instead of spring break style camps, a comfy bed over a hammock, ac and hot water instead of only ocean baths and prefer enjoying the nature and wildlife OUTSIDE of their sleeping quarters.

About Tamarindo Surf
Surf:
Tamarindo Beach has 4 main surf breaks that are great for beginners to intermediates. Iguana Surf is located across the street from the main Tamarindo surf breaks which is optimal for beginners since it is a beach break. You will have the opportunity to surf several breaks in Tamarindo and experience a nearby surf break too!
Beginner breaks:
Main Tamarindo break – From Iguana Surf to Witches Rock, this is where 80% of all beginners lessons take place, easy wave, small super beginner friendly. If you sign up for Tamarindo surf camp this is where we will start!
Capitan – This one is on the other side of the rocks where Pico is, still a bit dangerous cause there are some rocks, but nothing too bad or to worry about, it’s an easy small little wave great for beginners.
Intermediate Surf Waves:
Pico Grande – Maybe one of the most popular spots in Tamarindo, easy wave but a bit dangerous if you don’t know the layout, especially tricky for beginners as you need to know how and where to fall to avoid smashing against the rocks
Pico Pequeno – Not as easy as Pico Grande, but way steeper/faster, nicer form even on small surf, not as dangerous as it’s mostly clear of rocks (mostly) but still.. not beginners area for sure
River Mouth – Big nice left wave, this one changes every now and then cause of the sand bar that keeps moving, very

Amazing stay at Iguana Surf. Did the surf camp for 5 days and couldn’t have been happier with my instructor, the overall vibe of the place and the accommodations. Just came home from the 7 nights surf camp at Iguana and couldn’t have been happier about my vacation choice! I was a first time surfer, and my instructor Manuel was able to get me up on a board on the first day! From there he’s continuously guided me in improving my technique, so I could start catching waves on my own. The hotel room itself was good – one of the most comfortable mattresses I’ve slept on! The location is unbeatable. Highly recommend Iguana for your next surfing vacation!

Iguana surf you are awesome! As a family of 5 they created a three day camp for us so that is adults would have a teacher and each child had a 1:1 teacher. They made us feel at ease, never once making us feel bad about done if our lack of skills!! Bonus professional photos too! Top company and kind staff!
